The Stock Market Game™ Program:
New Features!
The Fall 2004 Stock Market Game™ (SMG) Program is available for active trading through December 10th. Thanks to Cabrera Capital Markets, UBS, and the Chicago Tribune, this program remains free to all schools in the City of Chicago. Illinois teachers of grades 4-12 can find program information and register on-line by going to www.stockmarketgame.org
New to The SMG Program this fall is the addition of mutual funds to the student portfolio. For the first time, students will be able to purchase closed-end and open-end mutual funds in addition to common and preferred stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, and the NASDAQ exchange.
InvestWrite, a new component to The SMG Program, was rolled out in the Fall of 2003. A perfect companion to The SMG Program, this teacher-designed writing component and competition reinforces students’ newfound knowledge and hones critical thinking skills. InvestWrite builds a bridge between classroom learning and the real world. Prizes vary from trips to Disney World and laptop computers to gift certificates and classroom pizza parties! The Capitol Hill Challenge, a special feature to the SMG was introduced during the Spring 2004 session, involving 16 schools nationwide. The student teams were sponsored by their local congressman, adding additional excitement to the program. The inaugural session’s winning team was from Community High School in West Chicago, Illinois, sponsored by Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert!
