Economics Challenge

2007 Results

On April 13, 76 high school students from ten Illinois schools competed in the annual competition for economics students, Econ Challenge. Students competed in either advanced placement economics (the Adam Smith division) or general economics (the David Ricardo division.) The Illinois competition was held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and consisted of individual and team tests, ending with a final buzzer round.

The top teams in each division advance to the Midwest Regional Econ Challenge competition on April 23 at the Union League Club of Chicago. Winning students from nine Midwest states vie for top honors in the regional competition.

Winning students in the Illinois Econ Challenge received medals, U.S. savings bonds and a traveling trophy to display at their school until next year's event. Runner-up teams received medals. All teachers and students participating in the event received 2007 Illinois Econ Challenge gift items and certificates of participation.

Midwest Econ Challenge

Nine states competed for Midwest Champion 2007 honors on April 23 at the Union League Club of Chicago. The states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin were represented. Competing teams each won their own state's competition in order to move on to the Midwest Regional competition.

The top team in each division advances to the National Econ Challenge competition in New York City in late May, with expenses paid for students and their teacher/coach. Students on the top teams at the Midwest Challenge receive savings bonds and medals. Teachers also receive cash awards. All students and teachers participating in the event receive 2007 Midwest Econ Challenge logo gift items and certificates of participation.

Representing Illinois in Midwest Econ Challenge 2007 were Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School in the Adam Smith division and Willowbrook High School in the David Ricardo division.
