Economics Challenge

2004 Results

On April 6, ninety-six high school students from eleven Illinois schools competed in either advanced placement economics or general (consumer) economics. The Illinois competition was held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and consisted of individual and team tests, ending with a final non-timed oral question-and-answer round.

The top teams in each division advanced to the Midwest Econ Challenge competition on April 26, 2004 at the Union League Club of Chicago. Winning students from eight Midwest states vied for top honors in the regional competition.

Winning students in the Illinois competition received medals, U.S. savings bonds and a traveling trophy to display at their school until next year's event.& All teachers and students participating in the event received 2004 Illinois Econ Challenge T-shirts and certificates of participation.

    Winning team: Willowbrook High School, coached by teacher Joy Joyce. Team members were Leo A, Eric D, Biljana M, Nick T.

    Runner-up team: Larkin High School, coached by teacher Steven Lauridsen. Team members were Margaret C, Brittany D, Chelsea P, Jill S.

Midwest Econ Challenge

Eight states competed for Midwest Champion honors at the Union League Club of Chicago. The states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin were represented. Competing teams each won their own state's competition in order to move on to the Midwest Regional competition.

The top team in each division advanced to the National Econ Challenge competition in New York City in late May, with expenses paid for students and their teacher/coach. Students on the top teams at the Midwest Challenge receive savings bonds and medals. Teachers also receive cash awards.& All students and teachers participating in the event received 2004 Midwest Econ Challenge T-shirts and certificates of participation.
