Parent Assist Summer Send Off - PASS It On

The first annual HFC PASS It ON was a great time! Our hosts, Terry and Jeff Howe graciously allowed us to claim their home as Huskie Territory for a fun afternoon filled with games, delicious food, and wonderful camaraderie. New and experienced Huskie families shared tips on Huskie success and formed new friendships. Soon-to-be NIU co-eds got to know one another and even found out that they just met someone who would be their neighbor, living in their residence hall. Jeff was the chef extraordinare, grilling burgers and dogs. Simple Sweets of Elgin provided us with delicious and beautiful desserts. The raffle prize, tickets to the Huskie Football home-opener, t-shirts, and newly released football team poster was won by Jessica Zych's family. All families left with a Huskie Family Connection tote bag filled with goodies. Remember guys, logo facing out! Check out the photos of the day on our web page www.niu.edu/hfc

Move In Day Tips From the PAC

Huskie Family Connections Parents' Advisory Board offers these helpful tips to make Move In day a little easier. Between DeKalb and Sycamore lie the strip malls. Many major retailers are located here. 1)You can order many items online and have them delivered to the DeKalb or Sycamore location. Then, instead of packing them into the car at home, you can pick them up once you get here. 2)Or, you can wait until you arrive in the land of NIU to pick up asundry items. Sometimes, you don't know exactly what you'll need, or what size of an item will fit in the space. You can check out the room, move in what you've brought from home, and pick up the rest of the stuff here. 3)By seeking out the strip mall area, or any of the greater DeKalb area, you are helping your student become acclimated to their academic home. Most of the strip malls are on Sycamore Road, which is IL Rt. 23 between DeKalb and Sycamore. Downtown DeKalb is Lincoln Hwy., or IL Rt. 38. Downtown Sycamore is State St., or IL Rt. 64.

Encourage Your Student to Get Involved

Date: Sunday, August 25 3:00pm-5:00pm

Holmes Student Center

Encourage your student to make the college years count by getting involved at NIU! With nearly 300 student organizations on campus, there is something of interest to everyone. The Involvement Fair seeks to provide students with an opportunity to improve and strengthen networks within the NIU community and develop upon their leadership skills, while familiarizing themselves with campus organizations and the services that they provide. The Involvement Fair also provides students with opportunities to build their resume through campus involvement and community service initiatives by getting involved in student organizations and student projects.Encourage your student to come to the fair to meet the student leaders of these groups and learn how to get involved at Northern!
