Job Description

The ResTech Helpdesk is a team of undergraduate students who provide:

  • Software support for residents' PCs
  • Support for online services including Ethernet and Wireless
  • Support for the ResTech Computer Labs
  • Computer consulting
  • Support and service for the Cyber Terminals
  • Hardware and software support for Housing & Dining


Working knowledge of the following:

  • Operating Systems: Windows (XP/Vista/7/8), Mac OS, Linux
  • Internet: E-Mail, Web Browsers (IE, Firefox, etc.), FTP, HTML
  • Computer assembly and troubleshooting
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Virus detection and removal
  • Spyware/Malware detection and removal

Other requirements:

  • Available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week
  • Enrolled minimum 6 credit hours as an NIU student
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25-50 pounds of equipment
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to learn fast and pick up new skills quickly

Bonus skills (not required):

  • Printer maintenance and repair
  • Novell Groupwise

Starting Pay Rate

  • $11.25 per hour
