Spring On-Campus Housing

students-walking

The residence halls and Northern View Community apartments are great places to find your niche on campus. Whether you are a new first-year, transfer or a returning upper class student, you'll find that life on campus is both convenient and full of new opportunities to get engaged at NIU!

Why live on campus in the spring?

Your one-semester contract starts in January and ends in May.

No 12-month lease to worry about. You'll get to move in in January and move out in May.

Dining, internet, and utilities included.

Your room rate includes unlimited all-you-care-to-eat dining at locations across campus, NIU Wireless (up to 100 Mbps), and utilities. In most cases you can use financial aid to help cover housing and dining fees.

Safety, security and staff on call 24/7.

On-campus residents enjoy the security that NIU OneCards and controlled door access provide, and our highly trained staff are available 24/7 in each community.

You're already close to your classes. No more hunting for parking.

Many residents walk or bike to class. Or you can take the 2L and 2R bus routes that stop at every residence hall.

    Be admitted to NIU

You must apply and be admitted to Northern Illinois University before signing up for housing.

  • 2

Sign a Housing contract and make a $150 payment

    Monday, November 6 at 10 a.m.

    Sign Contract

The contract explains what dates you'll have a room and other important terms. You can make the $150 payment with a credit card. $25 of this payment is a non-refundable processing fee and the other $125 is a prepayment on your account. The rest of your room and board charge is paid through your NIU Bursar account.

After you sign a contract, you will receive a confirmation email in your NIU Z-ID email address.

If you don't want to do this online, you can also sign a contract and send a check by mail.

    Select a room online

    December 12 at 10 a.m.

    Select a Room (Starting 12/12)

Do you have an idea of where you want to live? If not, don't worry — we can help you find a room that you'll love. You can start by checking out a comparison of each of our residence halls. You'll also be able to see which halls still have some available beds. If you have any questions about which hall is best for you, give us a call or message us on Facebook.

If you're planning on signing up with a roommate, they must also be accepted to NIU and sign a Housing contract. If you don't have a roommate in mind when you sign up, we'll give you a roommate. Many people moving into the halls in the spring already have a roommate that's continuing to live there from the fall semester.
