How do I choose a room?

First, research the different hall options available at NIU and decide which one is best for you.  After you've made a decision, you can begin the housing sign up process.

Are there tours?

Starting February 2nd, prospective students and family members are invited to tour NIU's Residence Halls Monday through Thursday from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.  Please call the Housing & Dining Marketing Office at (815) 753-9696 to schedule a tour. 

Can I have a single room?

A limited number of single rooms are available in Stevenson, Grant and Gilbert. New Hall has suite-style living were each student has a private bedroom (like single room), and in addition to a usual single New Hall residents enjoy a vanity area and a bathroom only shared with one other person.

Are the floors coed?

All residence halls offer coed floors.  Some halls also have single gender floors.

What are Living Learning Communities?

Every floor on campus promotes academic success and offers programming tied to transition students as they move through their years at college. Living Learning Communities go one step further in strengthening connections between students and faculty within a chosen course of study.  Learn more about Living Learning Communities.

What are quiet lifestyle floors?

Quiet lifestyle floors enjoy quiet hours 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except for Friday evenings and noon to midnight Saturday).

Quiet hours require that sound will not interrupt effective study or sleep.
