Application Process


  • Must attend one of the information sessions listed below
  • Must have completed 24 credit hours by the end of the semester in which they are applying
  • Have at least a 2.3 semester and cumulative GPA
  • One semester group living experience.


  • January 21, 22, 23, 27, 30 – Information Sessions (Mandatory to attend one)
  • January 31 at midnight – Applications due
  • February 20 – Candidate Social
  • February 21-22 – Candidate Interviews
  • April 4 – Letters out to Candidates
  • April 11 – Position Acceptance Due
  • April 9, 16, 23, 27 – Training for new hires
  • April 25 – New CA/CDA Meeting

Selling yourself on paper - Putting together a Cover Letter / Resume

As you are putting together your cover letter and resume, Make sure that you highlight experiences that demonstrate your qualifications. Your cover letter and resume should summarize all of your relevant experiences and express your enthusiasm and interest in the position. Also make sure you include the following, if possible:

  • Skills you have obtained from your current or previous work experience
  • How you are involved with the NIU Community (Student Organizations, RHA, Hall Council, Student Conduct Board, etc)
  • Experience in working with current Community Advisor to plan programs for your community
  • How you define and create community
  • Examples of how you work as part of a team and are a team player
