Amartya Chakrabarti Amartya Chakrabarti, Ph.D.
Research Scientist

I joined Northern Illinois University as a joint Post-Doctoral Fellow under the supervision of Professor Narayan Hosmane of NIU and Professor John Maguire of Southern Methodist University. Currently I am a Research Scientist and Visiting Assistant Professor at NIU. I graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2008 and my doctoral dissertation was on synthesis and development of electrolyte systems for lithium-ion batteries. Here, I am exploring now the realm of nanomaterials, including boron and boron-based nanostructures and their diverse fields of application.
Siddippa A. Patil Siddippa A. Patil, Ph.D.
Research Scientist

I joined as a Visiting Research Professor at Prof. Narayan S. Hosmane's research group, Northern Illinois University on 1st October 2013. Before coming to Northern Illinois University, I worked at the University of Texas at Arlington as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. Currently, here in Prof. Hosmane's research laboratory, I am working in the field of Nanotechnology-Driven synthesis of Boron Compounds, including Carboranes and Metallocarboranes.

Eyrusalam Bedasso Eyrusalam Bedasso
Ph.D. Candidate

I received my Bachelor's Degree in May 2011 in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I started my graduate program at NIU and joined Dr. Hosmane's group in spring 2012. My research focuses on synthesis and functionalization of boron nanorods.

Rebecca Dominguez Rebecca Dominguez
Undergraduate Researcher

I am a freshman at NIU and a Huskie Research Rookie. I am pursuing my Bachelor's in chemistry. I joined Dr. Hosmane's lab because I am interested in learning how the research process works. I am also interested in BNCT (Boron Neutron Capture Therapy) works and how it can be used to treat cancer.

David Gonzales David Gonzales
Undergraduate Researcher

I am a senior at NIU pursuing a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. As a former clinical laboratory science student, I am still very much interested in applying my knowledge of biology and chemistry to the medical field in some way, and doing research for Dr. Hosmane gives me the opportunity to do just that. With my fellow researchers, I am attempting to make water soluble boron nanoparticle delivery agents for boron-neutron capture therapy in cancer treatment.
Richard Johnson Richard Johnson
Undergraduate Researcher

My name is Richard Johnson, and I am a senior biochemistry student at NIU. I just started working with Dr. Hosmane this fall, 2013, but I can already tell that I am going to learn much from my time here. I am looking forward to finishing my last year at NIU and to hopefully continue my career in chemistry.
Yaa Karikari Yaa Karikari
Undergraduate Researcher

I was born and raised in Ghana. I came to America at the age of 12 years old. I am currently a junior at NIU and I'm pursuing a bachelor's in biology and a minor in chemistry. I plan to attend medical school after I have received my bachelor's degree. I joined Dr. Hosmane's team in the spring of 2012. I'm currently working on the BNCT project with Amartya Chakrabarti.
Viyon Kuton Viyon Kuton
Undergraduate Researcher

I am a senior here at NIU, working on my bachelor's in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. As a Biology major, I know there's no Biology without Chemistry which is why I joined Dr. Hosmane's group after learning about his research. Something about working in the lab fascinates me. I am currently working with Eyrusalam on the synthesis of Decaborane nanoparticles. I am grateful for this opportunity to work with Dr. Hosmane and this will be a great learning experience for me. Chemists think they are so much better than biologists, I am here to find out why.
Julio Sanchez Julio Sanchez
Undergraduate Researcher

I am a senior at NIU working on my bachelor's in biochemistry. I joined Dr. Hosmane's group because I am interested in cancer research. Currently, we are working on the synthesis of compounds that can be used in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) for cancer.
Kyndall Taylor Kyndall Taylor
Undergraduate Researcher

I am a Biology Major with a minor in chemistry. I started research in Prof. Hosmane's lab in the spring of 2013. I chose to do research in this lab because I hope to one day continue my education in medicine in the hopes of becoming a doctor. I have learned a great deal about medical science and the extensive hard work that is put into this type of research. Prof. Hosmane's lab has a great team of students, hungry for knowledge, and it is a pleasure to surround myself with them. I look forward to continuing my research with this team and to get the results we strive for!
Allyssa Vega Allyssa Vega
Undergraduate Researcher

I joined Dr. Hosmane's group in Fall 2013. I am currently working on my B.S. in Health and Human Sciences. I have always been fascinated with the science related to medicine. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with such a great team. I am enjoying the hands-on experience through laboratory research to earn the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful in my future career.
Melissa Watts Melissa Watts
Undergraduate Researcher

I am a pre-Medical Laboratory Science major with a minor in Biology. I am currently working on the synthesizing and purification of boron nitride nanotubes project with Dr. Amartya Chakrabarti. I joined Dr. Hosmane's lab to gain a greater understanding of chemistry and more research experience.
