Honorable Mentions

Mission: “Honorable Mentions is a student-run publication, an omnibus of the University Honors Student community. Each issue will spotlight the multifaceted pursuits of our students both in and out of the classroom. We seek to promulgate: all creative works literary, visual, and otherwise; reflective exploration of academic endeavors; accounts of inspiring community involvement; experiential narratives related to travel and cooking; thoughtful and adroit critiques of pop-culture phenomena; and to foist up and applaud the accomplishments of our exemplary faculty and students.”

Honorable Mentions is an online publication that is currently being reinvented, and is set to release a first issue in February of 2013. The purpose of Honorable Mentions is to allow Northern Illinois University Honors students to proudly display their pursuits from all aspects of life and academia, and to also let University Honors students to explore what their peers are achieving and what they are involved in.

Honorable Mentions is currently putting together a Student Editorial Board. We are looking for University Honors Students from every college that can do interviews, write articles, and publish submissions from University Honors students. We want enthusiastic and involved students from every discipline! The time commitment will vary, but ultimately members of the Student Editorial Board will be dedicating about 6-8 hours a month to Honorable Mentions. We will have weekly meetings for about an hour (meeting dates will be determined based on the availability of the Student Editorial Board), and we will publish a new issue of Honorable Mentions at the beginning of every month. 

Being apart of the Student Editorial Board will benefit your resume, you will be able to connect with more University Honors Students, you will be able to meet a wide variety of faculty and professors, and Honorable Mentions is something that no other University's Honors Program has!
