NIU University Honors Lecture Series
NIU Lecture Series Title:
“America As a Commercial Republic: The Virtues of Commerce & the Commercial Profession”
Purpose
of Lecture Series:
- To share critical thinking
about the inherent virtue of serving others through the business profession. The focus of each lecture in this series will
be on how the practical operation of a private enterprise in providing products
and services to others enhances virtue within that enterprise (i.e., within its
employees, partners and customers).
- To engage, stimulate, and
inspire University Honors students and other members of the NIU community with
thought-provoking presentations on the nature of the United States as a
“commercial republic.” A career in business is about much more than profits,
promotions and products. It is about the opportunities it presents to each
practitioner to do good and do so in a manner that builds one’s character.
- To strive in a modest way to
help educate and promote well-informed and effective global citizenship among
NIU students as they consider becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
This lecture series is made possible through a generous gift of Mr. Michael C. Maibach.
The annual lecture will be held each fall semester, beginning
in 2012
