Honors Engaged Events

Events

Many HE events are developed by the Honors Program; others that are developed by various groups on campus may be certified by Honors as eligible for HE credit. Such events are advertised through weekly Honors Update emails, social media and posters in the University Honors office. Eligibility for HE credit will include the Honors Engaged logo.

Event Descriptions

Artistry

Expands creative skill and/or ability.

  • Adjudicated performance - 1 HE credit
  • Conference attendance - 1 HE credit, Must attend the full conference
  • Lecture series - 1 HE credit, Must attend all sessions to earn the credit
  • Artistic showcase - 1 HE credit, Planning, Directing, Producing, etc.
Career Related Work Experiences

Provides direct experience in a work setting whereby you are able to gain hands-on experience and develop essential professional skills.

  • Internship:
    • Must notify the Honors Program, Must submit one pre-opportunity
      blog and one reflection
    • *Summer internships can count toward the next fall semester, not retroactive
  • Conference attendance - 1 HE credit, Must attend the full conference
Experiential Learning

Learning occurs through doing and “hands-on” experiences.

  • Professional certification - 1 HE credit, Certification must be presented upon completion for credit
  • Study Abroad:
    • Must notify the Honors Program, Must submit one pre-departure
      blog and one reflection
    • *Summer study abroad can count toward the next fall semester, not retroactive.
  • Assisting with students studying abroad in the US (Study Abroad and International House Programs) - 1 HE credit, must assist with the entire program
  • Service trip (outside of the U.S.):
    • Must notify the Honors Program, Must submit one pre-departure
      blog and one reflection
    • *Summer service trips can count toward the next fall semester, not retroactive
Leadership

Provides opportunity for a student to develop and realize their potential in both professional and personal settings.

  • Peer educator for Honors course - 2 HE credit, Instructor must submit an evaluation of your performance at the end of the course, must earn a satisfactory review
  • Conference attendance - 1 HE credit, Must attend the full conference
  • Student Association: 1 HE Credit, Serve on the Executive Board
  • Honors Committee: 1 HE Credit, Serve on the committee and attend all meetings
Service-Learning

Engages students in opportunities to better their surrounding community and world.

  • Volunteering - 1 HE Credit for every 5 hours volunteered
  • Fundraising - 1 HE Credit, Must assist with planning and/or working the event (minimum of 5 hours). No credit will be given for donations of money or a gift in kind.
  • Service trip (U.S.):
    • Must notify the Honors Program, Must submit 1 pre-departure
      blog and 1 reflection
    • *Summer service trips can count toward the next fall semester, not retroactive.
Undergraduate Research

Furthers understanding through systematic investigation of materials and sources, and knowledge creation.

  • Presentations in defined forum - 1 HE Credit
  • Conference attendance - 1 HE Credit, Must attend the full conference
  • Faculty guided research - 1 HE credit, Faculty must submit verification upon completion, cannot be a Capstone project
