The Honors Capstone

As an honors student, you will apply the finishing touch to your last year of undergraduate work with a special "capstone" course - an individualized project, thesis or study undertaken with the supervision of a faculty member of your choice.

Recent projects:

  • A student in a Spanish class assisted a translator twice a month at a local medical clinic serving young children.
  • A biology student collected samples of prairie plants that grow along local railroad right-of-ways.
  • An illustration major analyzed the representation of the enemy in Allied and Axis propaganda posters of WWII.
  • A student majoring in operations management and information systems customized a database to track billing for clients at a family planning center.
  • A history student interviewed some residents of the county nursing home who had climbed aboard the "orphan trains" of the 1930s.

NOTE: Students completing the capstone are required to make an appointment with the assistant director for advising and to obtain the capstone approval (signature) page that must accompany the capstone application.
