Transfer students are students who have completed an associates degree and have transferred that degree to Northern Illinois University. Students pursuing certification as transfer students have already met the University's general education requirements by compact agreement.
Transfer students must meet the course work requirements set forth by their major. These requirements are listed below.
Transfer students pursuing teacher certification must also meet the teacher certification program requirements (this includes both the professional education coursework and the required social science coursework).
Because transfer students have many different sets of requirements to meet, they are strongly encouraged to meet with their college advisor, their major department advisor, and their certification advisor each semester.
This description is prepared for the convenience of students seeking secondary teacher certification through the Department of History at Northern Illinois University. Students seeking certification should note that procedures and requirements may change and that this description therefore should not be taken as a legal document or as a binding statement of rights and obligations. Students should always seek advising from the History/Social Sciences Program Advisor or Coordinator before making any decisions or assumptions about their status in the program and their path to completion.
