Northern Illinois University has been committed to preparing exemplary educators since opening its doors as a teacher education institution in 1899. For over a century, we have prepared teachers who meet both national and state standards in a community of learners. This community stresses knowledge, practice and reflection. These three facets of an exemplary educator are formed through collaboration, diversity, caring, life-long learning, scholarship and creative critical thinking.
The Northern Illinois University Conceptual Framework reflects this heritage, our mission, and our continuing partnerships with the public school community.
