Current Research: My research encompasses various aspects of the history of medicine in early modern Spain. I am currently working on a manuscript which examines the impact of bubonic plague epidemics on the development of public health in Spain during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In addition, I have a second project nearing completion which examines changes in surgical practice in Seville within the larger context of intellectual change in the sixteenth century.

Teaching Interests: My teaching interests are broad, thus I have taught a wide variety of courses. Many of my courses fall within the early modern era of European history, but others carry me from the ancient world (history of science) to the current era (Western Civ, Modern World, Spain since 1475). I enjoy the broader perspective offered by working in a number of different eras and fields and work to bring those perspectives into the classroom.
