HPV (human papillomavirus) Vaccine

The human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV), Gardasil is now available at Health Services. Men and women 26 years or younger are eligible to receive the vaccine.

The fee for this service can be paid by cash, check, MasterCard or Visa, or can be charged to the student's NIU Bursar's account.

There are about 40 types of genital HPV. This vaccine is intended to prevent infection from four (4) major types. Men and women who have not been infected with any of the four HPV types will get the full benefits of the vaccine. Those who have HPV may do not have all strains, so they may also benefit from receiving the vaccine. The vaccine does not cure or treat existing HPV infections.

The vaccine consists of a series of three injections at specific intervals over a 6-month period. The vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women. Additionally, those who have an allergic reaction to yeast or any component of the HPV vaccine, and those who currently have a moderate or severe illness, should not receive the vaccine.
