LGBTQ+

banner-lgbtq

Acknowledging that women, men and trans individuals may also identify as LGBTQ+, we look at underrepresented identities as intersectional, and impacted by the multiple identities an individual holds. The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center provides a social outlet, relevant resource and support network for all LGBTQ+ individuals through a gender equity, feminist and womanist lens. We work in collaboration with other departments to develop workshops, presentations, programs and conferences on topics that are important to those who identify as and support those in the trans spectrum community. Further, we offer leadership development resources such as LGBTQ+ Speaker’s Bureau, Transitions and TransAction Task Force. LGBTQ Ally Training and Trans Ally Training is free and open to the NIU community and region. Much of our interactive events and discussions look at media, pop culture and history and the impact on the LGBTQ+ community. Supportive GSRC staff can offer assistance for students with questions or concerns about LGBTQ+ identities.
