After Submitting Your Thesis or Dissertation
You will need to wait patiently while the NIU advisor reviews your thesis or dissertation.
Carolyn Law is the thesis advisor in the Graduate School, responsible for thoroughly reviewing each submission. Most papers require at least some superficial corrections. She will mark any corrections and format adjustments directly on your ETD using Adobe Acrobat. Because ETDs are reviewed in the order they were received, the Thesis Office cannot predict how long this process will take. Papers submitted on or very near the post-defense deadline may take a few weeks to return, sometimes even after the graduation date. Rest assured that if you met the post-defense submission deadline and are otherwise eligible for graduation, your ETD will be handled for that term regardless of the backlog.
Making and Submitting Corrections
When your paper has been reviewed, you will be emailed with instructions for accessing the marked paper, how to make the corrections, how to submit the final corrected version as a revision to your existing account, and a reasonable deadline for submitting the final corrected version for approval.
Carolyn will quickly check the final corrected version and you will be contacted by email or phone if additional corrections are necessary. Finally, Carolyn will record final approval as a milestone in your MyNIU account and send you an email of congratulations.
A few weeks after the official graduation date, Carolyn will electronically “ship” all of the approved ETDs to ProQuest for publication per each student’s selections during submission. Publication (without embargo) may take several weeks.
The ETDs are simultaneously deposited into NIU’s institutional repository, Huskie Commons (embargo periods apply). Cataloging and access may take several weeks.
