Solar Thermal Heating for Swimming Pools
As a sustainable measure to conserve natural gas, NIU installed solar hot water heating systems for the indoor swimming pools at Gabel Hall and Anderson Hall. A solar hot water heating system, in conjunction with a pool cover eliminates the need for central plant steam for heating the pool water.

ESG Presents NIU with a Solar Power Vehicle
You may have recently noticed the Northern Illinois University’s solar-powered, six-passenger golf cart roving across the campus transporting college visitors, staff and alumni. Presented by Energy Systems Group (ESG), the energy services provider which has implemented various comprehensive energy efficiency and building improvement projects on campus, this sustainability vehicle is a solar electric hybrid car and is a great way to reduce the NIU carbon footprint and promote renewable energy while touring campus.
