The Task Force on the Sustainable Campus Environment, also known as the Green Team, was formed to help Northern Illinois University evolve into a more sustainable campus. The President's Office called for the task force to be created out of the rising importance of sustainability initiatives in higher education.
A team of faculty, staff, and select students was created from different departments throughout campus. This diverse group of individuals creates an integrative approach to tackling sustainability on campus.
Members of the task force have contributed to sustainability improvements such as energy efficiency improvements, water conservation, recycling expansion, and making NIU a leader in sustainable transportation. These initiatives will not only reduce NIU's carbon footprint, but will also save the university money and reduce resource consumption and waste.
All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the Green Team Committee meetings on the first Wednesday of February, April, June, and August, in Holmes Student Center, University Suite, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
