Giving Options
You have a lot of flexibility when you give to NIU. Not only do you determine how the funds will be used, there are also many ways to give.
Unrestricted gifts allow the university to allocate funds wherever the need is greatest and to seize opportunities as they arise. Unrestricted gifts may be used for financial aid, innovations in teaching, research equipment, facilities, and much more.
Restricted gifts allow you to designate your gift to a specific school or program or a priority area at the university. When you make a directed gift, you enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you are supporting a program that is meaningful to you.
You also have the option of designating your gift either for endowment or current use.
Expendable, current-use gifts can provide flexibility and immediate impact, whereas endowment gifts provide security over the long term by expanding the university’s permanent financial base.
