Get WISE (Women In Step with Engineering), sponsored by Northern Illinois University’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, is a new program dedicated to helping young women in middle school and high school explore the exciting and rewarding field of engineering.
Through partnerships with local businesses, in-school and on-campus group activities, and one-on-one mentoring opportunities, Get WISE will provide students with valuable hands-on experiences and a support system that includes current NIU engineering students and faculty.
Get WISE programs have been made possible thanks to the generous financial support of the E. Eugene Carter Foundation. The Carter Foundation believes that students from groups that are historically under-represented in engineering, including women, bring unique and substantially valuable perspectives that will benefit society as a whole.
Dr. E. Eugene Carter and his wife, Dr. Rita Rodriguez, are experts in international finance and former faculty members at Harvard, MIT, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and other institutions. Dr. Rodriguez, an immigrant from Cuba in the 1950s, served four presidents as a director of the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
