 GEOG 202: World Regional (3)

This course focuses on distinctive landscapes and culture attributes of different world regions as well as the interconnectivity of world regions. This course begins with an introduction to basic geographic concepts, the changing pictures of world regions in a global context, and the foundations of world regions. Then it explores the major world regions through their physical and environmental attributes, their positions in the world-system, and their cultural, political, and economic characteristics. Top

GEOG 493/593: Seminar  on "Computer Methods and Modeling" (3)

The course will focus on data analysis / visualization / algorithm development for geographic problems using Matlab, X3D, and Python. This course will count toward the GIS and GIA certificates, as well as toward the major in GEOG.

GEOG 498K/790: Seminar  on "Web Mapping" (3)

In this course we will learn technology related to displaying interactive, static, and dynamic geographic information (both explicitly spatial and non-spatial) on the Web. To this end, will cover the following technology: HTML5, CSS, Javascript, GeoJSON, jQuery, Google Maps API, D3, KML, Google Earth, Google Public Data Explorer (and its Dataset Publishing Language), Open Street Maps, X3D and Interactive Campus Maps. There is a strong emphasis in this course on open source solutions to geovisualization. My intention is to increase your capability to develop non-standard tools and visualization techniques of your own, ultimately to give you a more versatile toolbox with which you can approach visualizing and publishing complex geographic problems and datasets. At the same time, we will explore the web geovisualization literature together, so you can better understand the limitations and capabilities of this kind of work
