Urban Economic Systems



Course Description

Examination of the internal patterns and dynamics of urban areas. Spatial, economic, political, social, and behavioral approaches to the study of cities. Major focus is on U.S. cities.

Learning Outcomes

  • To learn about the processes that shape city form.
  • To understand how economic, social and technological change impact urban systems.
  • To examine historic and contemporary world urbanization patterns.
  • To develop skills in the analysis of demographic and economic information on cities.
  • Convey information about geographic patterns, distributions and associations through maps and other geo-visualization products as well as through oral and written communication.
