Overview

  • Worked in Mayer Brown’s Marketing, IT and Customer Relations, and Human Resources and Benefits departments.
  • Worked with fellow interns to help organize a Pro Bono murder case under the supervision of Mayer Brown’s Director of Pro Bono Activities/Litigation Training.
  • Completed a presentation to the NIU Office of General Counsel and guests on summer experience working at Mayer Brown.

Key Assignments & Lessons Learned

While working in the Marketing department, communicated with numerous international offices to update files for the internal registry and entered descriptions for important purchased images to help file and sort them.

While working in the IT and Customer Relations department, reimaged computers to they could be used by employees of the firm, helped organize the numerous computers, monitors, hard drives, and general technology and assisted on installations of desktops and monitors.

  • Learned role of marketing for a large law firm and the obstacles faced by Mayer Brown.
  • Learned about the field of investigative discovery regarding technology and virtual files.
  • Learned about the role and function of the NIU Office of General Counsel.

Description of Summer Experience

In a word, “life changing.”

Background

Libardo is a Northern Illinois University rising senior undergraduate studying political science, community leadership and civic engagement, as well as Spanish. At NIU, Libardo held positions in the Pre-law Honors Society and Student Association Senate where he focused on improving student relations within the university. Prior to participating in the Summer Diversity Fellowship program during the summer leading into his senior year, Libardo also worked at the Cosentino Law firm, a family-run office located in DeKalb, IL. Libardo is the first recipient of the Office of General Counsel and Mayer Brown LLP Summer Diversity Fellowship in Law and Public Policy.

B.A., Political Science, candidate, fall 2016, Northern Illinois University

Career Goals

After his undergraduate studies, Libardo plans to attend law school and eventually practice law in the United States.
