Professional Background

Norden Gilbert has provided legal counsel to the University for 35 years, coming to De Kalb from private practice in Chicago. 

Norden serves as chair of the Presidential Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and is a member of the University’s Intellectual Property Committee and the Community Standards & Student Conduct Advisory Board.  In recognition of his service to the University, Norden has received the SPS Presidential Award for Excellence, the Eychaner Award, the SPS Council Outstanding Service Award and the Student Affairs Recognition Award. 

In the past he has served on the University Council, the Supportive Professional Staff Council, the Northern Star Publication Board and the Institutional Review Board on the Use of Human Subjects.  Norden also has served at Acting Director of Purchases at Northern.

Norden is also involved in the local community.  He is a member of the De Kalb Human Relations Commission of which he is a former chair.  He is the Regional Commissioner of the local region of the American Youth Soccer Organization.  He also sings with the De Kalb Festival Chorus.
