Professional Background

Raquel is a third-year law student at the NIU College of law. She is a member of several student organizations such as Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Christian Law Student Association, and Women’s Law Caucus. She has held leadership positions in student organizations including President of NIU Latino Law Student (LLSA), Secretary of International Law Student Association (ILSA), 2L and 3L Representative of the Family Law Society, and Student Bar Association 3L Representative. Raquel also served as the student member of the NIU Board of Trustees during her 1L year from July 2015- January 2016. Raquel is also a member of the NIU College of law JESSUP International Moot Court team. Raquel’s work experience includes working as a Graduate and a Teaching assistant for the Latino Resource Center and the NNGO Department at NIU, respectively. During her 2L year, she also interned at a Schlesinger & Strauss LLC. in Libertyville, IL and was published in the Illinois State Bar Association September 2016 Family law newsletter. Raquel is also a 711-licensed law student and has worked at the Zeke Giorgi Legal Clinic in the Civil Justice department and will also be working as a legal extern for the Honorable Judge Mark J. Lopez, Associate Judge, in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
