The Division Staff additionally coordinates payroll garnishment orders, requests for employee or student restitution and state-mandated university vehicle certifications.

Litigation involving representation of the University and its staff is managed by the University's legal team. This team also processes subpoenas and third-party requests for employee or student records.

The Office of General Counsel provides legal counsel to the NIU Police and Public Safety Department, Division of Operations and Community Relations, in implementing the legal requirements of the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety and Security Act. Along with the Compliance Division, the Office of General Counsel assists with the University's coordination of safety and security policies, procedures and safety related initiatives.
