Become a Graduate Student Leader

First- and Second-Year Experience announces a graduate student leadership opportunity for Fall 2014!

First- and Second-Year Experience is recruiting Graduate Student Leaders to work collaboratively on a UNIV 101/201 teaching team. Graduate Student Leaders will help implement the curriculum, facilitate class discussions, and apply student development theory to practice in a first-year classroom. This is a volunteer position open to graduate students who meet the following qualifications:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher;
  • Have completed at least one semester of graduate coursework at NIU;
  • Have completed or be enrolled in CAHE 522 (Student Development Theory);
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively to a class of first-year students;
  • Have 4-5 hours per week to commit to UNIV teaching responsibilities during Fall 2014;
  • Must enroll in the Graduate Student Leader Seminar, earning two units in CAHA 597 independent research credit.

Preference will be given to graduate students pursuing a degree in Counseling, Adult & Higher Education. A maximum of ten Graduate Students will be selected for Fall 2014.
