My name is José Badillo. I am currently getting my Master’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature. I am planning on expanding my education by earning a Ph.D. once I graduate. I am from the beautiful city of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. As a kid, I always dreamed of becoming a plastic surgeon. Before coming to NIU, I attended Waubonsee Community College for an Associate’s degree in Science. I then transferred to NIU planning to get a Bachelor’s degree in Biology; and later transferring to medical school. After a year of taking science classes, I realized I did not have the same interest for science as I did for languages. I then switched my major to Spanish Language and Literature.
I have been in FLRP since 2009. The experiences I’ve had over the past couple years have been priceless. I like FLRP because it gives the students a chance to practice and improve their speaking skills while they interact with classmates and natives in a more relaxed and social environment away from a classroom. I also enjoy all the fieldtrips that we take every semester, especially the Lake Michigan cruise and the opera. My favorite was The Lion King musical. TAFT is also one of my favorites because every semester we have the opportunity to go to an NIU campus in Oregon, Illinois, and spend time out in nature doing team-building activities such as the scavenger hunt, the bonfire, the night hike and so on. Also, the food is amazing!
