M.S. Ed, Instructional Technology, Northern Illinois University B. Ed, Teaching English as a Second Language, Sanata Dharma University, Indonesia
My name is Silvia Rehulina Ginting. I come from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. My friends call me Silvia. I was an English and Indonesian language teacher. I started teaching languages when I first taught English at an elementary school while finishing my degree at Sanata Dharma University. My passion for teaching started several months after I taught in this school. Then, I continued to teach languages until several weeks before I flew to the United States in 2010.
I came to the United States for the first time in August 2008, after I was awarded a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) at Northern Illinois University. I assisted Professor Henry in her Indonesian language classes from August 2008-May 2009. I decided to come back to the United States in January 2010 to study for my master's degree in Instructional Technology at NIU because I enjoyed my experiences at NIU in the previous year, and I believed that NIU had a lot to offer me.
During my free time, I enjoy promoting the Indonesian culture through dance performances. I have participated in several cultural events. Besides dancing, I like to listen to music and watch movies. Currently, I work in the Foreign Language Learning Center at NIU as a graduate assistant; I have been doing this job since the summer 2011. I like meeting new people, and I enjoy helping students, so whenever you need help feel free to ask me!
