Police/Public Safety

This department is responsible for providing and maintaining a safe and secure environment conducive to learning, living, and working at Northern Illinois University, while respecting the rights and dignity of individuals utilizing the programs and facilities at the University. The department is staffed year-round, 24 hours a day, by highly-trained professionals who serve the campus and adjacent areas where students and employees reside and socialize.

The Physical Plant provides 24 hour emergency services for the University community. During normal working hours, the following telephone numbers should be contacted:

Weather Forecast

The Environmental Health and Safety department look after the most weather related events. Weather warning information is disseminated via state of the art NOAA radio receivers located in every building on campus. These radios provide direct information from the National Weather Service. In addition outdoor sirens are located on campus. The message is transmitted by the DeKalb Police Department.
