This department maintains comprehensive University HR functions in partnership with all sectors of the organization including the administration of HR functions for all employment categories. HRS also maintains a wide range of compliance, resource planning, and organizational development processes.

This departmemt is a multifaceted department in Human Resources committed to ensuring that equal employment opportunities and diversity exist throughout the university community.

Employee Assistance Program

This department’s primary purpose is to enhance the well being of all NIU faculty, staff, retirees, and their families through confidential, professional consultation and assessment for a wide range of personal and family matters. It also provides coaching and mediation for supervisors and employees in an effort to resolve work-related issues.

Employee Services and HRD

This department promotes organizational development and provides educational awareness programming for faculty and staff; provides an avenue for all employees within the Finance and Facilities Division to confidentially voice and/or resolve conflicts, issues, and barriers internally; and utilizes a stewardship philosophy, strategic vision, and leadership in providing quality, customer-driven human resource services to support the Division.

Environmental Health and Safety

This department provides the University community with professional services and expertise of qualified industrial hygienists, and trained specialists in fire safety, radiation safety, biological safety and chemical safety, asbestos removal, and meteorology. EHS assists with all aspects of environmental concerns on campus including, but not limited to, indoor air quality, safety training, emergency evacuation plans, fire code analysis, and hazardous material removal and disposal.
