It’s all about the process
Industrial and systems engineers pull it all together
If you’re the kind of person who is always looking for a way to get the job done better, faster and at a lower cost, then Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISYE) at NIU, is for you.
Graduates of this program leave with a unique skillset. They use an informed understanding of the many facets of engineering to improve products and processes. They focus on quality, productivity, manufacturability, environmental impact, cost-effectiveness, timeliness and customer and systems safety. And rather than looking at just one piece of the job, they look at the entire product life cycle – from design through customer support.
Not surprisingly, people who can do that are in great demand. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, job opportunities in the field are expected to grow 20 percent over the next decade--in all kinds of fields. Graduates of this program can be found working on factory floors trying to drive down costs; in hospitals streamlining workflow and improving patient care; or even in the entertainment industry improving the logistics of everything from concert tours to theme parks.
Regardless of industry they all have the same goal: working to get the greatest possible benefit out of data, machines, energy and people. It is a multi-faceted career that requires not only sound engineering skills, but solid people skills too.
Faculty in the program are passionate about the field and maintain strong connections to industry – which means lots of opportunities for research, internships and projects for students that provide real-world learning while you are still in school.
So, if you’re looking for a career in engineering that creates opportunities to interact with a wide variety of professionals and make a difference, check out Industrial and Systems Engineering.
