An internship experience is required within this emphasis. Usually taken during the summer toward the end of the program, this experience involves eight weeks of full-time experiences in one of a variety of lodging and food service operations in the northern Illinois area. This experience frequently leads to the offering of a position upon graduation.
Students in this emphasis may elect a short-term practicum or externship experience. In this experience, students observe and participate in a variety of sites, often offering nutrition education experiences to the public under the supervision of a qualified professional. Taken for 1-3 semester hours, this part-time experience is useful for career exploration.
Students in both emphases 1 and 2 are required to complete 100 clock hours of approved work experience as a prerequisite to a junior-level course. No academic credit is granted for this work experience.
