Graduate students should apply for a graduate assistantship at the time of application to the Graduate School. Your completed form will be sent to the School.
Typical graduate assistantships are for 10 to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring terms and are accompanied by a tuition waiver. Graduate assistantships may be assigned to assist faculty members in teaching or research. Most graduate assistantships are filled in the spring to begin work in the fall semester and preference is given to students enrolled in a graduate program in the school.
The contract to offer the graduate assistantship is sent by the Secretary to the School Chair.
Graduate assistants who receive the Federal Work Study Graduate Assistantship can be paid at up to double the rate paid other GA’s in FCNS, up to the maximum monthly limit set by the graduate school ($1234/mo in 2001-2002). Additionally, they can be paid for up to 12 weeks in the summer at the same percentage time and rate, as funds allow. The total payment cannot exceed the amount of federal work-study financial aid that was allocated.
Students will be informed of this opportunity in the acceptance letter and the offering letter for the graduate assistantship. Prospective students will be informed of this possibility through information in the recruitment packet and the FCNS website. Students will need to provide a copy of the letter from financial aid that documents the amount of aid.
