Affirmative Action and Diversity Resources (AADR) will be conducting a Summer Professional Development Series for Faculty, SPS, and OS. The goal of the series is to provide practical information and resources to our employees that help foster fair and equal treatment of NIU employees, students, and the community. Each session will review the laws and policies that guide Affirmative Action at NIU as well as best practices and resources for implementing them in the workplace.
Northern Illinois University has policies and union contracts that dictate how managers, supervisors, and instructors should address allegations of discrimination, perform disciplinary action, and implement corrective action. The focus of this session is to provide guidelines, resources, and best practices for addressing performance issues that may violate NIU’s non-discrimination policy, and/or union contracts regarding non-discrimination, and discipline. It is important for individuals in a supervisory role to understand that labor unions have contracts that include rigid procedures for taking disciplinary and corrective action. This session will give the basic tools for working within such policies and contractual agreements. A tentative agenda is as follows
