Board of Trustees Professor

Learning a foreign language and related culture can help students to think globally which can be an asset as students begin seeking careers in multi-national corporations. Dr. John Hartmann will discuss NIU’s intensively taught Thai program that has students actively interact with both face-to-face and online resources throughout the semester. Students studying the Thai language are fully immersed in the Thai culture through closely monitored and mentored activities that enable them to comprehend basic spoken and written Thai and to speak and write Thai in practical situations by the end of the first year of study. Dr. Hartmann will also discuss the importance of learning outside the classroom and how these extra-curricular activities put the final touch on students’ global education.
