Dr. William Koehler Presidential Teaching Professor School of Music
A number of major composers, including Ravel and Prokofieff, composed piano music for one hand, sometimes for specific pianists who had sustained hand injuries or who had specifically requested such compositions.
In this seminar, Professor Koehler will discuss piano literature for right- or left-hand only, and will explain the role that this music has played in his teaching and in his own rehabilitation following an injury. He will also share his experiences with his own students who have composed and performed piano music for one hand. During the seminar Professor Koehler will perform Scriabin's Prelude for the Left Hand.
