Due to the events of last Thursday and the activities scheduled for this week, Faculty Development programs scheduled for the week of February 18 - 22, 2008 have been canceled.

This workshop by Ms. Suskie will focus on reviewing sources of the recent increase in pressures for accountability, what higher education’s public is asking for, and how the higher education community might respond. During the question and answer period beginning at 9:45 a.m., she will answer questions on any topics related to the assessment of student learning and accountability, including those beyond the scope of her presentation.

Anyone engaged in assessment and accreditation activities will especially find this workshop very beneficial to understand accreditation issues at the regional levels, and discuss strategies for responding effectively to accreditation demands.
Linda Suskie has nearly 30 years of experience in college and university administration and is Vice President of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Prior positions include serving as Associate Vice President for Assessment & Institutional Research at Towson University, and as Director of the American Association for Higher Education’s Assessment Forum. An internationally recognized speaker, writer, and consultant on a broad variety of higher education assessment topics, Ms. Suskie’s latest book is Assessing Student Learning: A Common Sense Guide (Anker, 2004).
Ms. Suskie has taught graduate courses in assessment and educational research methods and undergraduate courses in writing, statistics, and developmental mathematics. She holds a bachelor’s degree in quantitative studies from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s in educational measurement and statistics from the University of Iowa.
The workshop is geared towards NIU administrators (deans, associate deans, chairs, program directors, etc.) but faculty and staff interested in accreditation and assessment issues are welcome to attend. Registered participants will receive workshop materials and refreshments. Advanced registration is required. Please fill out the form below to register for this course. Due to the expensive nature of the program and the advance notice needed for arranging food and materials, please register by the deadline and plan to attend the entire workshop.
Registration Deadline: February 8, 2008. After you register, if you are unable to attend, please inform the Center by February 18, 2008 so that those on the waiting list could be given the opportunity to attend the workshop or program costs could be reduced.
