February 21, 2013, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. For string orchestras
String Day is designed to hone the musical skills of developing string players by providing a day of musical enrichment for students. The event features a short performance by each high school group on the Concert Hall stage. This is followed by an on-stage critique conducted by NIU orchestra director Lucia Matos and a follow-up critique by a member of the Avalon Quartet. The day includes master classes with NIU string faculty Blaise Magniere, Marie Wang, Mathias Tacke, Anthony Devroye, Cheng-Hou Lee, and John Floeter, as well as a performance by the Avalon String Quartet.
