Yao "Lina" Lin (Associate) is originally from China, She entered the Secondary School affiliated to Tianjin Conservatory of Music in China in 1998. In 2003, she was accepted by Odessa Conservatory of Music, Ukraine. In 2009, Lina received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with the highest honors, the “red diploma”, from Odessa Conservatory.
In 2009, she entered the School of Music at Northern Illinois University to study piano performance and received both Master’s degree and Performance Certificate in 2013. She is an avid chamber music player, having performed numerous chamber music concerts, piano duos, piano trios and piano quartets with her fellow students as well as with distinguished artists such as the members of the Odessa Philharmonic, NIU Philharmonic, and the Avalon Quartet. She was an accompanist for the ballet of the NIU School of Theatre and Dance. She also accompanied the Opera Workshop for the NIU School of Music. She taught group secondary piano classes for music majors at NIU, and was a teacher of the Community School of the Arts for 5 years. She will start her teaching in Kishwaukee Community College in Spring, 2015.
Lina has given solo and collaborative performances at such venues as the Carnegie Hall in New York, Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, Singletary Concert Hall in Lexington, Kentucky, Canyon Wren Recital Hall in Leavenworth, Wa.
She speaks three languages fluently: Chinese, Russian and English. She enjoys many volunteer activities, and her skills enable her to engage her audience in a variety of venues such as local retirement centers, churches, wedding and parties. In particular, she plays piano for the church on Sundays and served as a judge for piano competitions in Chinese communities of the Chicago area.
Lina’s teaching goal is to develop the different music abilities of each student, encouraging them to grow the love and passion to the music. She will help students to develop their technique and musicianship through learning various types of music.
