Josanne Francis, steelpan

Josanne Francis (apprentice 2) is currently working on her master's degree in music at NIU, where she studies steelpan with faculty member Liam Teague. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago (the birthplace of the steelpan), she received a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Southern Mississippi. Over the past several years, Josanne has served as the director of a community steelband in Mississippi, a drumline instructor, guest conductor, clinician, and teacher at several high schools, middle schools, and community colleges. With 15 years of experience on the instrument, Josanne currently serves as the co-director and co-arranger of the NIU All-University steelband, as well as a member of the NIU World Steelband.
