Playing your string instrument is lots of fun when you join this ensemble, designed especially for beginning string players. Explore the basic elements of music theory, note reading and rhythm comprehension. In addition, fun and challenging repertoire is read, studied, learned, and polished. No auditions are required, but students are expected to be in Suzuki Books 1 or 2, or equivalent.

String, wind, brass, and percussion players! Here's your chance to play masterpieces from the baroque, classical, and romantic periods, as well as well as from the 20th century, including popular music by Simon and Garfunkle and the Beatles. The music is fun and challenging.

CSA Sinfonia Concerto Competition: This competition is for musicians who are 18 years old or younger and who live within a 75-mile radius of DeKalb. Auditions are on Sunday, Dec. 7 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Players are expected to perform one memorized movement of a standard concerto or work with orchestral accompaniment. Competitors need not be in the CSA Sinfonia. Winners may not compete again on the same instrument. Details and application forms are available online and in the office. The postmark deadline for applications is Nov. 7. The winner receives a prize of $200 and performs the concerto with the orchestra.
