Expertise: I study age effects in second language acquisition. Children are thought to learn languages effortlessly and reliably, yet adults learn faster in the early stages of L2 acquisition. My research examines both learner-internal factors, such as maturationally based cognitive changes, and learner-external factors, such as the amount and type of language instruction, that could cause adults to learn languages differently from children. I teach classes on elementary and high school foreign language teaching methods, as well as Spanish linguistics.
