Alumni Recognition Dinner

The Northern Illinois University Engineering and Technology Alumni Society honored outstanding graduates of the university’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology at its first ever Alumni Recognition Dinner, April 20, at NIU Naperville.

The event brought together more than 75 alumni of the college who helped raise $4,000 for the ETAS Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Sponsoring the event were: Baxter Healthcare, Engineered Storage Products,  Gerdau-Ameristeel, Hamilton-Sundstrand, Ingersoll Machine Tools, Inc., Kay Manufacturing, Kennametal and United Parcel Service.

Provost Ray Alden (left) and Professor Cliff Mirman (right) present the 2007 Outstanding Young Alumni Award for the CEET Department of Technology to Himanshu Angolkar, a 2003 graduate of the Department of Electrical Engineering. He currently works as an electrical engineer for eServ, participating in the development and execution of projects for multi-national companies, like Caterpillar, John Deere, Harley Davidson, and Whirlpool.

He is currently Director of Risk Control Consulting for Aon Risk Services, Inc. in New York.


Provost Ray Alden (left) and Professor Simon Song (right) present the 2007 Outstanding Young Alumni Award for the CEET Department of Mechanical Engineering to Louise Schalasky, who earned a bachelor’s the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2005. She currently works as an equipment reliability engineer for Marathon Petroleum Company.

Provost Ray Alden (left) and Professor Simon Song (right) present the 2007 Outstanding Alumni Award for the CEET Department of Mechanical Engineering to Kent Foster. A 1992 graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Foster is currently pursuing his MBA at NIU. He serves on the CEET Industrial Advisory Council and has been instrumental in cultivating the relationship between his employer, Caterpillar, and NIU-CEET.


Provost Ray Alden (right) and Professor Omar Ghrayeb (left) present the 2007 Outstanding Young Alumni Award for the CEET Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering to Allison Dieckman. A 2003 graduate of the Department of Industrial Engineering, she works for Elgin Industries. She has helped build the relationship between her employer and NIU-CEET, arranging several student projects.

Provost Ray Alden (right) and Professor Omar Ghrayeb (left) present the 2007 Outstanding Alumni Award for the CEET Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering to Matthew Kroll. A 1999 graduate of the Industrial Engineering program, Kroll is manager of quality and customer satisfaction for Motorola, developing quality management systems. He has been instrumental in building the relationship between NIU-CEET and Motorola and has helped bring several projects to NIU students.

Ravi Kishore Yenduri receives the 2007 Outstanding Young Alumni Award for the CEET Department of Electrical Engineering from Professor Donald Zinger. Yenduri earned his MS in Electrical Engineering in 2005 and is currently a senior engineer at Packet Video. He has kept in touch with CEET, consulting with the Institute Of Electrical and Electronics Engineers chapter in the college.

Kenneth Hartman (left) accepts the 2007 Outstanding Alumni Award for the CEET Department of Electrical Engineering from Professor Donald Zinger. A 1976 graduate of the Technology program, Hartman has risen to the position of chief technical officer for Connor-Winfield. He serves on the ETAS Board of Directors and sits on the CEET Industrial Advisory Boards for the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Technology.

Kurt Paquin (left) accepts the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology Outstanding Alumni Award for 2007 from NIU Provost Ray Alden. A 1985 graduate of the Department of Technology, Paquin is currently vice president of operations and process management for Cision. He has serves on the ETAS Board of Directors and is currently earning an MBA from NIU.

Charles F. Carroll (left) accepts the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology Outstanding Alumni Award for 2007 from NIU Provost Ray Alden. Carroll received his Master of Science Degree from the Department of Technology, with an emphasis in safety, in 1989 and now has his own consulting firm. He has served as an advisor and consultant to several major corporations including Marriott International, Universal Studios and the Walt Disney Company. Carol is an active supporter of the college and has created a scholarship to support deserving students studying safety.

CEET Alumni Relations Coordinator Trish Sellers accepts an award from Provost Ray Alden, granting her status as an Honorary Alumnus of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. Sellers is retiring after 27 years of service to NIU, 22 of those in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, where she spent 18 years as secretary to the dean of the college before becoming Alumni Relations Coordinator in 2003. She was instrumental in organizing the first job fair at the college in 1998 and was one of the guiding forces behind the development of ETAS.
