What are your current job responsibilities?

I recently assumed a new role as a System Operations Engineer. In this role, I’m responsible for monitoring the ongoing maintenance of our distribution system. Part of my role entails the daily schedule of the workload in my territory, the accurate tracking of compliance records to be filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission, the performance of quality control assessments on our workforce, and probably the most important part is the daily interaction with our customers. Most of the customers that we deal with are classified as “Commercial Customers." These customers use large volumes of gas, and it’s important for us to establish lasting relationships with them.

What is your most memorable moment from your days as an NIU student?

Several moments come to mind; but one that is relevant to this newsletter happened in 1998, when we held the IIE conference at NIU. The effort that went into planning that event was commendable and I was proud to be part of the planning committee. It was great to see other engineering schools come to NIU and appreciate what CEET had to offer. I firmly believe that event helped open doors for many graduates that year. It also gave CEET the opportunity to cultivate relationships and establish partnerships with companies such as UPS, Nicor, Sunstrand, Abbott Labs, Intel, and Motorola to name a few.

What advice could you give to current CEET students and soon to be CEET graduates?

I would tell students to get involved and to take advantage of every opportunity that promises to further their education to the fullest. By taking an active role in student organizations, students can increase their networking opportunities; which in turn can increase their possibilities of getting a job after graduation.

What is your favorite ETAS event?

My favorite event is definitely Homecoming. I have the opportunity to see people that I don’t see frequently and chat about our time at NIU.

Given the following choices, where would your college friends say you spent more time?

a) Founders Memorial Library
b) Student Recreation Center
c) Molly's?
d) Other

And why?

My answer has to be D - at the Beta House! The Sigma Lambda Beta House (my fraternity house) was my hang out place. I won’t go into details as to why but it had to do with the social aspect of my education!
