Engineering and Technology Alumni Society

History

Engineering Building on Sycamore Road Established in 1985, the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology is the newest college at NIU. The college's roots can be traced to 1908 through a vocational arts program and subsequently through the founding of the Department of Technology in the late 60's (formerly known as the Department of Industry and Technology). As a result, the college has the loyal support of over 7,500 alumni. The other departments within the college which add to our alumni base are Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Industry and Technology facilities The Engineering and Technology Alumni Society (ETAS) was formally chartered in February 1995. There is a twelve-member Board of Directors that oversees the activities of the alumni society. The Board of Directors is elected by the active membership of the alumni society. Membership in the alumni society is eligible to any graduate or former student of Northern Illinois University, the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, the Department of Industry and Technology and the Industrial Arts Teachers program.

ETAS holds its annual general membership meeting each year on the morning of the annual homecoming football game. The meeting is held at the college's homecoming tent in the area north of the stadium on the NIU campus. There is an election of four members to the Board of Directors held at this meeting each year. You are invited to join us on this day for the general membership meeting and then a pre-game celebration which is held in the homecoming tent followed by the game.
