The Institute for the Study of the Environment, Sustainability, and Energy places a high value in the continuous development of its relationship with the people, organizations, and businesses within the DeKalb Community.  As Northern Illinois University continues to enhance its connection to the DeKalb Community and uses the “communiversity” model, the ESE Institute is proud to have established relationships with some incredible local businesses and organizations to support the University’s efforts.

Our partnerships and connections made with local businesses benefit our students by providing career development opportunities, program support, and sustainability partnerships.

Pizzo & Associates has continuously made internship opportunities available to students interested in ecological restoration, has supported the Green Lens Environmental Film Festival, and was instrumental in the planning and execution of the Native Plants Garden on campus.

Goodwill of Northern Illinois has provided the resources for students to participate in the “Give & Go” program by donating clothing, household goods, and other items to reduce the amount of unnecessary items going into our landfills.  In return, these collection efforts benefit Goodwill by providing inventory and training opportunities.  The ESE Institute is also grateful for Goodwill of Northern Illinois’ support for the Green Lens Environmental Film Festival.

Waste Management is a generous sponsor of a variety of sustainable events in which the ESE Institute takes part.  They have provided recycling bins and staff-time to support the recycling at home football games and assisted in the sustainability of the Green Lens Environmental Film Festival. Waste Management continues its efforts to support the community outreach programs presented by the ESE Institute.
